12 Graphic Design Heroes from the Land of Hope, Indonesia!

It is no secret that Asia has an abundance of extremely brilliant creatives. Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Japanese cultures, especially, have contributed a lot in the success of graphic design industry in this region. For every occasion, we see a beautiful display of art and design coming from skillful designers belonging to various Far East cultures. For instance, we recently celebrated the Wesak Day by sharing a post on Buddhist symbolism in Art and Design.

To give exposure to some extremely talented Asian designers, we bring you another exclusive roundup of 12 amazing graphic designers from the land of hope; i.e. Indonesia. Here you go!

1. Gumpita Rahayu


Rahayu initiated his creative maneuvering with type designing when he was a college student. Born and raised in Bandung, Indonesia, he achieved a diploma in graphic design and after some time created what is known as Absolut Foundry. The Foundry is intended to become a reliable typeface resource for designers world over.

2. Jatidiri Ono


Jatidiri Ono is a part time traveler. He is also an awesome graphic designer and photographer. It is perhaps the nomadic life that compels him to explore new possibilities with such vigor. His work mostly revolves around branding and visual identity design, editorial design, and typography.

3. Angga Tantama


Tantama is a freelance graphic designer and t-shirt designer who lives and works in Surakarta, Indonesia. He creates amazing graphic illustrations; he is a pretty good designer and digital artist. You can see samples of his work featured on Behance, Wacom Gallery, and Character Design Served.

4. Steven Purwadipura

Purwadipura is a graphic designer, illustrator, and digital artist of promising talent. He is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. His art and design portfolios are available on a couple of networks such as Student Show and Behance.

5. Ihsan Farhan

A passionate graphic designer, Farhan is a student of Visual Communication Design at ITENAS and lives and works in Bandung, Indonesia. As he loves to work with the visual medium, he focuses on everything related to branding and advertising, graphics and illustrations, art directions, etc.

6. Cempaka Surakusumah


Surakusumah is Jakarta based graphic designer who dreamt of becoming an astronaut. Now she is also a painter, focusing on branding, posters, editorial, and packaging design. Her love for music, flowers and space are manifest in her graphic illustrations.

7. Eno Ruge


Eno Ruge is a self-taught Jakarta based Graphic Designer. His focus is multi-disciplinary ranging from illustration and typography to motion graphics, 3D animation, photography and web design. Eno’s work has been published in leading design magazines and books such as Advanced Photoshop and BabyBoss. He is also a member of the The KDU Networks.

8. Samir Yasif


Samir Yasif lives and works as a Graphic Designer in Medan, Indonesia. He specializes in transforming visually poor designs into novel, stimulating, and innovative designs. He is also Founder of Vier Photography and Design – a corporate identity and stationary design firm.

9. Yohanes Raymond

Raymond is a creative director and a graphic artist based in Jakarta, Indonesia. He focuses on branding, creative direction, and web design. He has won a number of awards between 206 and 2010. You can find him featured on several platforms such as Branding Served, Behance, Adweek Talent Gallery, etc.

10. Sony Wanandi

Another noticeable designer from Surbaya, Indonesia, Wanandi started drawing at 8. Now she is a student of Visual Communication Design at Petra Christian University. Her work focuses on graphic design, branding, and editorial design.

11. Adji Herdanto


Herdanto is a Surabaya based graphic designer and an amateur bedroom musician. His design work revolves around visual identity, branding, art direction, editorial design, typography, and music.

12. Tubagus Rofi

Tubagus Rofi is a Jakarta-based “rookie” illustrator who focuses on graphic design, illustration, and icon design. He is currently a student at Raffles Design Institute. Although he doesn’t have a very extensive portfolio yet, his work is already getting enough appreciation to be noticed.
