Lost creativity, originality and a good sense of aesthetics I mean. Everyone was just figuring out the new UBER logo when Animal Planet shook us with their brand identity redesign.<\/p>\n<p>So when you\u2019re redesigning your logo, the aim is to look better not bad. However, seeing these companies it seems that they\u2019re steering against the  notion. Let\u2019s scrutinize some bad to <strong>bad logo designs<\/strong> that\u2019re constantly failing to impress.<\/p>\n<h2>Dubious Brand Design: Uber<\/h2>\n<p>A good brand design is clear on what it wants to deliver and how it  wants to look, but sometimes some businesses fail to accomplish this clarity.  Such is the case with Uber. It never found satisfaction in its brand image, and this is why the company\u2019s logo kept changing from one logotype to another.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Uber-Logo-Evolution.png\" alt=\"Uber Logo Evolution\" title=\"Uber Logo Evolution\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18557 lazyload\" width=\"750\" height=\"400\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 750px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 750\/400;\"><\/p>\n<p>When the company launched in 2009, the logo seemed brittle with awkwardly curved serifs in the letters \u201cU\u201d and \u201cR\u201d. From UberCab, the company shortened its name to Uber and ousted CEO Travis Kalanick ruined it with an in-house  design that received countless criticisms in 2016. The typeface was peculiar yet better than before, but what put the company in deep water was its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/blog\/uber-logo-redesign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">app icon design<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Uber-App-Logo-Evolution.png\" alt=\"Uber App Logo Evolution\" title=\"Uber App Logo Evolution\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18556 lazyload\" width=\"650\" height=\"348\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 650px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 650\/348;\"><br \/>\nDue to the uproar, the company had to get rid of the strange app icons. And just recently, it introduced a new brand design with a custom typeface called <em>Uber Move<\/em>. The new CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi says \u201cit&#8217;s time to move in a new direction. And I want you to know just how  excited I am to write Uber&#8217;s next chapter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The new <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Uber?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"broken_link\">@Uber<\/a> logo is so fucking boring. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/design?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"broken_link\">#design<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4XaRPa3L20\" class=\"broken_link\">pic.twitter.com\/4XaRPa3L20<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u00e1\u00b4\u00ba\u00e1\u00b4\u00bc\u00e1\u00b5\u20ac Jony Ive (@JonyIveParody) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonyIveParody\/status\/1041761263662104576?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"broken_link\">September 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We often hear \u201cless is more\u201d but I don\u2019t completely agree with it because many brands are taking this phrase too far. They\u2019re literally ripping  away every element from their respective logo design &#8211; making it look naked or incomplete.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.&#8221;\u009d &#8211; Antoine de Saint-Exupery<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Born To Be Too Wild: Animal Planet<\/h2>\n<p>When the typographic logo design of Animal Planet came out, we were in  awe as to \u201cwhat the heck they just made!\u201d Not that the old visual identity was  appealing, but at least when you aim to evolve you tend to get better not  worse. Anyway, we accustomed our eyes to bearing the sight of that mess, or at  least what we did was pretend to ignore it.<\/p>\n<p>Surely many designers thought it can\u2019t get worse than this right? Ah, hold that thought. Animal Planet created a new visual this year to represent  their fresh brand identity. They went with a \u2018kind of\u2019 abstract elephant and an  overall minimal look with an arbitrary typeface choice. The elephant symbol comes from the 1996 logo design, which had the same animal in negative space along with a globe.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Animal-Planet-Logo-Evolution.png\" alt=\"Animal Planet Logo Evolution\" title=\"Planet Logo Evolution\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18553 lazyload\" width=\"650\" height=\"348\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 650px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 650\/348;\"><\/p>\n<p>People have commented on blue being the rarest occurring color in nature, the elephant is leaping like a dog, or that it\u2019s one miss after another.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Animal Planet changed their logo and I&#8217;m not sure how I feel about it yet. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aCxBziTnUL\" class=\"broken_link\">pic.twitter.com\/aCxBziTnUL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 ( not so ) \u00e0\u00b8\u00a3\u00d7\u00a7\u00e0\u00b9\u008f\u00e0\u00b9\u008f\u00d0\u00ba\u00d7\u00a5 \u00e1\u00b4\u2026\u00e1\u00b4\u0153s\u00e1\u00b4\u203a\u00c9\u00aa\u00c9\u00b4 \u00f0\u0178\u017d\u0192 (@dustinjax) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dustinjax\/status\/1052727618544521216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" class=\"broken_link\">October 18, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I\u2019d leave it to you to decide if the logo design is thumbs up or thumbs down. However, I feel if they improve the icon shape a little more in the coming years then we might finally get a hit design from Animal Planet.<\/p>\n<h2>Confused Mood: Tribune Publishing<\/h2>\n<p>So there are people who\u2019re undecided, but with something as big as your brand identity you can\u2019t always be in a dilemma. You need to make the right  decisions about design.<\/p>\n<p>When Tribune Publishing changed its name to \u201ctronc\u201d and the design of the logo, I was shell-shocked. A multicolored gradient logo with a techie pattern overlay and the first letter had a disintegrated effect. The design received several bad comments such as \u201cRIP brand credibility\u201d, \u201cMust be June Fools&#8217; Day!\u201d and \u201cMy eyeballs just threw up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now they changed their look again &#8211; this time it\u2019s back to boring. So much for redesigning the logo yet again.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tribune-Publishing-Logo-Evolution.png\" alt=\"Tribune Publishing Logo Evolution\" title=\"Tribune Publishing Logo Evolution\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18555 lazyload\" width=\"650\" height=\"348\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 650px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 650\/348;\"><\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s This: Fine Arts Museums Of San Francisco<\/h2>\n<p>I thought an image is worth a thousand words. That\u2019s what is  popularized, but looking at the before and after logos of this museum just  spoils the idea. Does a \u201cparagraph\u201d qualify as a logo design?<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.zilliondesigns.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Fine-Arts-Museums-Logo-Evolution.png\" alt=\"Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Logo Evolution\" title=\"Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Logo Evolution\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18554 lazyload\" width=\"650\" height=\"348\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 650px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 650\/348;\"><\/p>\n<p>The new logo design is a bad replica of the old design, which was also a mediocre design. Wait a minute. Is this even design? Looks like art is laughing at design. Seriously, this is the kind of stuff that makes you say WTF.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Do Some Logo Designs Keep Failing?<\/h2>\n<p>There has to be a reason for a brand to keep failing in creating a winning design. The following can be the cause for failure:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ignorance is a bliss, or is it?Being aware of anything that\u2019ll help you design a better brand identity is crucial. You must conduct a research in order to evaluate how your brand can successfully connect with the target market.<\/li>\n<li>Easy does it! Don\u2019t rush your brand identity redesign simply because you feel everyone is  changing and so should you. Spend time on the design and the concept behind it, especially in this digital world where you can be easily trolled.<\/li>\n<li>When redesigning your logo, make sure it isn\u2019t a dime a dozen. A logo design builds an image for your brand, so if you want it to be great then don\u2019t settle for the ordinary.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t cut corners with your visual identity design. While a cheaper and quicker solution seems like a treat in the  beginning, it becomes a nuisance later.
