A simple fact about being human: we are ADDICTED to the terrible. I’m not sure what their reasons are, but \u00a0some\u00a0designers forget the vital elements of successful logo design<\/a> and create these truly offensive mistakes.\u00a0Many studies have tried to explain this phenomenon, but we’re not here to really look into that. The fact is, we’re more likely to celebrate (groan at?) horrible visual design than something we can appreciate.\u00a0 So let\u2019s dive in and give ourselves a little moment to gloat that we didn’t make this mistakes. \u00a0(Warning!\u00a0 Some of these examples are NSFW.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Kerning That Just Doesn\u2019t Work<\/b><\/p>\n

No one can blame you if you\u2019re really tempted to whip out a megaphone and shout in someone\u2019s ear: \u201cKERNING MATTERS.\u201d\u00a0 After all, everyone loves a stroll in the \u201cPARK,\u201d not the \u201cP\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 AR K.\u201d \u00a0The worst case scenario for anyone who doesn\u2019t take kerning seriously will result in repeats of MEGAFLICKS, KIDS EXCHANGE, and Pem\u2019s (Perri\u2019s?) Barber Shop.\u00a0 Or rather:<\/p>\n

You know what they say: the bigger they are, the harder they fall.<\/p>\n

Since we\u2019re practically ants compared to the colossal corporations, we can\u2019t deny that deep in our hearts there\u2019s something twisted yet satisfying about seeing one of the giants trip up.\u00a0 A poor design choice in corporate branding is one of the easiest foul-ups to spot and mock.\u00a0 One good example is Gap\u2019s attempt to change its logo in 2010.<\/p>\n

\nVia: wikipedia<\/a>The change was very poorly received, and we poked fun at it big time.\u00a0 We will remember this incident not because it was a bad logo, or even because a big brand screwed up.\u00a0 We will remember it because we had a good laugh at their failure, and that made us feel like we the ants overpowered a giant.<\/p>\n

Designs That Commit All of the \u201cDeadly Sins of Design\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n

So what\u2019s better than boring bad designs?\u00a0 A logo using Wordart stuck in the 90s + gradients + clipart and then some. \u00a0Now<\/i> this is getting interesting.\u00a0 Here\u2019s a tip for anyone who intentionally wants to make a logo like this (for either parody purposes or for whatever weird reasons you have): the more \u201csin points\u201d a logo racks up, the better chance it will have at achieving the status of \u201cso bad it\u2019s good.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s face it: our minds head straight for the gutter whenever they can.\u00a0 Give us the right visuals and we\u2019ll be covering our mouths and snickering in a matter of seconds.\u00a0 What makes it even funnier is that most designs with something \u201cnaughty\u201d in them were likely made by individuals who were completely oblivious (or who might have wanted to get some petty revenge against a client, who knows). \u00a0Logos that often appear in lists of \u201cLogo Design Gone Wrong\u201d are examples make us feel \u201cuncomfortable\u201d or \u201csee things we weren\u2019t supposed to see.\u201d For instance:<\/p>\n

The \u201cK\u201d in Kudawara Pharmacy\u2019s logo gets attention for the wrong reasons.<\/p>\n
