Logo Design

South Square Builders

No

We are a high end residential building company. We would like to develop a sophisticated and upscale logo that will make a great first impression. I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in architecture so I have a great amount of respect for Thomas Jefferson. The name "south square" is actually one of the rooms in Jefferson's Monticello home. Please do not include tape measures or hammers.

Cutting-Edge

Serious

Since this logo will be featured on business cards, stationary and signage, it should be designed to stand out without being over the top. Branding will be important and we would like the logo to be something that will be easily recognizable and easy to recall.

not sure

I am not opposed to using a square in the design. Again, I think this can be simple, but not simply ordinary. I like the inversion with the text in the "Showtime" logo above.

Designers: I have extended the project one last time. I think some of the designs are getting close, but we would still like to see some additional entries. This will be the last extension. Also, the message system seems to have changed and lots of the correspondence has been lost. If you have replied to some of my private messages and not heard back from me, please re-send. Thanks again.

We are migrating away from having a pronounce "S" in the logo simply because it seems too much like superman and since the company name is south square builders, it would really need to have an SSB in it and there is a local competitor with those initials featured in their logo. Sorry.

I think that we are getting closer, so I have decided to extend the project 3 more days. I will eliminate and post comments on the remaining designs soon. Thanks for all of the work so far.

Here are some specific comments on the remaining designs (in order as they appear above): #50: I like the colors used in the lower design, but I don't think that hexagons are the right choice for a building company where "square" is in the company name. #43 & #42: I think this is a good attempt. I like the simplicity here, but now after seeing "South" and "Square" stacked on top of one another, I am not too fond of it. I would like to stay away from red altogether and prefer the colors in #42 slightly better. #32: I like the font and style of the company name. We need to migrate away from a city skyline and away from red in gerneral, but I very much like the right side where the logo and text are white and contrast with the solid color. #29: The logo doesn't pop, but I like the composition and text for the company name. I like how "South" and "Square" stack and are not right and left justified. #28: I think this is a good attempt to replicate the image that I posted, but since the company name has three initials, I don't think that it makes sense to stick to a single letter here. #20 & #21: The logo seems a little busy but I like the composition and font for the company name. #11: Despite the comment above, I do like this logo based on the simplicity and pop. I would like to see some variations on the colors and migrate away from the reds. #8: I like how the company name and logo are the same width, but I am having issues with things being angled. As a builder, we do things that are plumb and square and as an architect, I like things that are symmetrical and easily organized. #6: See comments listed in #28 about the logo. However, I really like the composition and font for the company name. Can you try to take this concept and make it like #42 in terms of the contrasting colors and possibly drop out the logo? #1: I would like to see some color variations here as well and migrate away from the reds. THANKS........so much for all of your efforts.

Thanks for all of the submissions so far. I think we are getting closer, but I have not found the perfect logo yet. I am considering extending the project, but wanted to post some comments with the hope that you can use this information to revise or modify some of the current designs. I eliminated a number of entries simply based on the fact that the logo didn't feel right. I do want to keep a square in the logo and I also want to maintain a simple and sophisticated look. We do high end residential construction and generally don't do commercial or office development so the logo should not have a city skyline featured. Also, I have shared this with some of you privately, but all should understand that the logo will be featured on business cards, stationary and signage. I will have one of my cabinet makers manufacture a 2' x 2' x 2" thick cedar sign that we will have sandblasted and painted for signage in front of the various projects. This type of signage is very distinct and makes a first good impression so the logo needs to be relatively simple and not too busy. Also, please refer to the logo that I uploaded where the colors and the design is simple. It should not be busier than that one. I will post a second batch of comments on specific likes and dislikes of the remaining designs. Thanks again.

Thanks for the submissions so far. Just to provide some feedback for the first six, here are some of our thoughts: #1 I like the simplicity and the way that it "pops", but I am not sure that I love the font of the initials. The initials seem more like a monogram versus a company name. #2 It simply doesn't pop at all and I do not like the chosen font. I did mention that a square could be incorporated into the logo, but I am not sure that I want it to be a cube. #3 I think that this has some potential, but I would want the company name to be the same width as the logo. Since I am an architect, I tend to migrate towards symmetry. #4 This one doesn't feel remotely "construction" rather it seems as if it could be applicable for a different industry. Same thought that as in #2, not terribly fond of the cube. #5 I like the simplicity here, but the logo reads more commercial than residential. #6 I think this has some potential since it is very similar to the image that I posted. The S needs to be subdued and I like the company name being as wide as the logo as stated before. Thanks again for the effort. Hopefully these comments help. Looking forward to more submissions or revisions.

I uploaded a logo that we had developed for a previous company only to provide some direction in terms of what we liked. It was a simple and sophisticated logo, which is what we are looking for with the new logo for "South Square Builders". Thanks.
