Quality. Simplicity. Effective.

Toki (from the Moari word meaning Adze [Axe]) is a brand of hand-made knives, primarily chef knives, that are plasma-cut and then hand forged. The forging process is done to ensure a sharp edge is attainable and that it lasts, it also has various aesthetic qualities. The design of the knives will be contemporary but influenced by traditional Japanese blacksmiths. The product will be made from high quality materials (high carbon metals for the blades and a mixture of expensive woods and poly for the handles) and to a high standard of finish. I will be etching blades with designs, and possibly have the Toki logo stamped into the blade near the handle.

In combination with the knife construction, I will be offering a service to sharpen existing blades.

https://noraknives.com/ are doing something similar to my vision for Toki - limited runs of well designed and well made knives.

About me:
I grew up in Fiji (in the Pacific) and lived on a house-boat. I love the ocean where I spent my time sailing and scuba diving. I have spent the last 20 years developing computer games (Mass Effect and Dragon Age) but I now am working for myself to develop my own business.

I like the combination of yellow and black (I drive an imola yellow Audi with black interior) but am very open to ideas.

I'll include a mood board of things that I like, but by no means limit yourself to this.

Some designs I've liked use a way to encapsulate the logo, text or both - a border or outline example.

Hi. There are currently 2 designs I like. The designs I like so far are strong and graphical rather than delicate and intricate. I feel they work well as a bold image but can work too as a stamp or etching in the metal. I prefer more contemporary fonts rather than calligraphic or hand written fonts. I like having the logo and the text and side by side (or stacked one on top of the other) but am NOT so interested when the letters of Toki are used as part of the logo. Quite a few entries have used the O as a graphic but I don't seem to like this so much. Interestingly everyone is sticking to using black and yellow/orange. Feel free to explore different palettes as the yellow/black combination was just a suggestion but I am very open to other ideas! There is the jade/green of the Omari artifacts as one starting point, but please try things out - reds, blues, whatever. :) Thanks!
