I'd like this logo to appear authoritative, solid, directorial, traditional. Something that I can be proud of (if that doesn't sound too hokey).
I'm an army officer, but, within the army my job is to teach and write. So this motto actually has some meaning to me.

I'm partial to a gold - not too much of a bland, old gold and not too much of a fluorescent gold - somewhere in the middle. I'd also prefer black. So black and gold, I guess. But I'm also open to other options, and would like to see what other colors look like.

Please include a pen and a cracked/dented/bent sword. Or a pen clearly in a dominant position over a sword. I think that speaks fairly directly, and graphically, to what I'm aiming at.
Please embed my initials (MLC) and the latin saying (Calamus Gladio Fortior) somewhere in the logo as well.
Lastly, I'd like to see what a fountain pen might look like with a silver fern (i.e. Google New Zealand All Blacks and you'll see what I mean) on the end of the pen in place of the traditional feather. That might be a nice effect.
