Graphic Designers

Battle Of The Year! True Designer Versus Fake Designer

Designers come in all shapes and sizes! While you may think a designer is just a designer, there are the true ones and the fake ones.

Being a design blogger and a community builder I have come across all kinds of designers. After much observation, I was able to divide them into these two categories. Of course, there are other ways to differentiate them but right now this is what I’ve got for you.

Observations On The Types Of Designers

During my journey to find the types of designers, I discovered many interesting things. Let me share those with you and you can see whether or not you agree:

1) Those graphic designers who have done an entire four or six year design degree get perturbed at those who happen to call themselves a designer because of their experience or short graphic design courses they did.

2) Some designers believe in the power of networking online in this digital age and they make an effort to interact with their audience, while others make social media accounts and have no time to respond.

3) Many people who work as designers in agencies were not even hired for the creative job, but with time they eventually became one. It’s true and a point that raises the question, do you even need a degree in graphic design to become a graphic designer?

4) Some people develop a passion for graphic design but they don’t have the time to do a bachelor in the subject so they opt for alternative ways to learn the technique. However, the bigger concern here is regarding their aesthetics and problem-solving skills.

5) Found people who say using online design tools effectively doesn’t qualify you as a graphic designer but then the question arises – is graphic design only about how to use the “tough” tools or does it have to do with how well you use any tool to create a design that knocks people out?

6) Some take work seriously because their passion is on the highest floor, but some design only to earn money because they feel it’s the easiest way to make bucks.

Whatever the case, you can be a true designer anytime, provided you truly understand the essence of becoming one in the first place.

True Designer Versus Fake Designer

Let me explain why I divided graphic designers or web designers into the categories of true and fake. Over these years I have met a number of designers with varying levels of interest, education, experience and attitude. It’s interesting to note how we can group them into such classifications.

While it is good to have diversity in the design industry, the problem is that it becomes harder for clients and employers to dig the gold from the coal mine.

Well here are the differences between a true and a fake designer. If you have more stuff to add, share in the comments. I’d love to read your observations.
