How To Make A Kickass Earth Logo Design

Dear earthlings,

Although you find stories about extraterrestrial life and new planets exciting, it is time to focus on what is happening to the ball you live on.

With love,

Your Alien Friend

A letter to all the “intelligent” and “civilized” species of the planet Earth to keep their muse to one side, and start thinking about practical and collective ways to solve the global issues affecting human beings and other organisms. While scientists and politicians have the power to implement strategies, designers can offer solutions or at the very least give hope to all the inhabitants of this beautiful orb.

This said, many organizations and companies are working towards making ‘life on earth’ better in a variety of ways. There are communities and societies that devise strategies to address diverse problems such as global warming, water scarcity, famine, deforestation and electronic waste among other.

As a graphic designer, we come across many projects that require us to create a logo design based on our planet. Let us explore the ways in which the Earth has been used in a logo design.

Earth Logo Designs

Many logos around the world incorporate our planet in different ways and styles. Here is a collection of Earth inspired logo designs for you.

Environmental Care Logos
Charity Organization Logos
Fund Raising Logos

In some logos you will instantly recognize the planet, while in others you will see that abstractism is used to symbolize this celestial body. Many will directly visualize the planet, while others may use a concept to refer to Earth.

Concrete Earth Logo Ideas

These logo designs have an exact shape of the Earth with no ambiguity. Viewers instantly recognizes the icon without having to askew their eyes. The concept comes from concrete thinking, where by you focus on things physically in front of you. If you observe the logos below, they clearly present the shape and structure of our planet.

Abstract Earth Logo Designs

Abstract logos that incorporate earth are very subtle in their approach. They don’t show the earth or the map as it is popularly perceived. Abstractism comes from semantics and philosophy. Abstract objects don’t have physical referents, yet when you make abstract earth logos there a subtle connection to the “idea” of Earth.

Graphical Earth Logos

Graph-based earth logo designs use vertical, horizontal or circular lines to appear like diagrams with a mathematical or scientific appeal to them. By graphical, I mean that these unique logos appear to be unlike others. They seem highly corporate and they show the lines of latitude and longitude.

Earth Map Logo Inspirations

There are two versions of the Earth that we know of. One shows all the land and sea on a sphere such as a two-dimensional or three-dimensional circle and the other is a flat map spread on any shape. Here I am referring to earth map logos that came sort of out of a geography book.

Typographic Earth Logos

Type-based earth logos incorporate the globe in between the name of the company or organization. The earth icon can be of any style from geometric to organic, but it will appear anywhere in the typography. Usually the letter “O” is replaced with the earth symbol because the two have a similar circumference.

Some logo design use the earth symbol but they use a whole lot of other symbols along with it. When designing a logo, you cannot ignore the wants of a client otherwise you be able to satisfy them and they will avoid paying you.
