Business Logo for Deft Digits Guitar Lessons
Deft Digits Guitar Lessons
Seattle Guitar Lessons
Yes
This will be the company logo for my guitar lesson business, Deft Digits Guitar Lessons, located in Seattle, WA.
http://deftdigits.com
I teach acoustic and electric guitar lessons to kids and adults, all skill levels, specializing in rock, pop, folk, blues, and jazz. I teach some video lessons via Skype, but most of my business comes from in-person lessons in Seattle. The main feature that sets me apart from my competitors is my love of technology. I constantly use software tools during lessons, I've been blogging and using social media for years, and I program music-related web apps for my students.
I'd like my logo to have "Deft Digits" as the main stylized font, and "Guitar Lessons" less emphasized. (Depending on the design, I might ask to see "Seattle Guitar Lessons" instead.) I'd like to have a symbolic aspect that alludes to the guitar and/or Seattle. The standard iconic image of Seattle is the Space Needle. Here's a messy example of a logo that incorporates both: http://www.seattleslackkeyfestival.com/archives/assets/images/Seattle_SlackKey-LOGO.jpg. I realize it might be impossible to use a Space Needle rendering while keeping it simple and clean. Simplicity is more important, as is the guitar element. But if you can come up with a tasteful, simple symbol that says "Seattle" and "guitar," I will do a back flip.
I'll use the logo on my website, business cards, guitar picks, flyers, letterhead. It needs to scale well to small sizes and convert well to black and white.

I don't have any exact color requirements. If the new logo works well with the existing colors at http://deftdigits.com, great. If not, I can easily tweak the site's colors. I seem to favor dark red, like a cherry wood, as the primary logo color. I imagine wood-tones or Earth-tones, but feel free to follow your vision for the other requirements described above. I'd also like to see some ideas with Seattle-associated blues and greens. (Seattle's major sports teams, the Seahawks, Mariners, and Sounders, all use similar colors. Avoid the obnoxious neon green of the Sounders.)

One of the most successful guitar teachers in Seattle is http://www.heartwoodguitar.com. That's the best guitar instruction logo I've seen. It even scales to a 16x16 favicon, cropping down to the guitar symbol. The owner is a friend of mine, and he operates in the same region I do, so I'd like to avoid any resemblance between our logos.
A few other guitar logos, just for ideas, but the results are not really what I want:

Here's a Space Needle-based logo that I really like: http://seattle-seo.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/seo-seattle-logo.gif
More Space Needle logos, just for ideas, all to complex for me:
