Kirtland is a community college located in Northern Michigan. We offer academic degree and certificate programs for people wanting to get an associate degree and/or transfer to a four-year institution, such as Associate in Arts and Associate in Science. We also offer occupational programs such as Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, Electrical Technology, etc., designed to allow someone to get a job in their field of study after graduation.

We're reworking our brand, moving away from the use of our namesake (a rare bird that nests in our area) and a former "college in the woods" theme in order to be a more progressive and modern institution delivering cutting-edge education opportunities. Our logo should convey the message that Kirtland is "a college of distinction."

Do NOT include any representation of a bird, trees or geographic location in the logo concept.

The logo must include our college name "Kirtland" in the design. Kirtland must be in the typeface Trajan Pro Bold and must be in the blue color #2C3E4F.

Submissions must be a vector image created with Adobe Illustrator.

Thank you for your submissions. Today we are in the process of eliminating designs. For those submissions which have been eliminated, we will be providing individual feedback on the direction in which we are heading if you wish to adjust your designs and submit additional concepts. We are not looking for traditional educational symbolism using people, graduation caps, trees, stars, etc. Concepts based around the use of the letter “K” are acceptable; however, we are not looking for an overtly obvious use of the letter. Abstract or conceptual designs playing off the letter K are preferred if you go this route.

Maybe this will help...we're looking for something relatively abstract in the form of a symbol that says in a subliminal way "be the future." "Start here, and through your education and training at Kirtland, you'll end up there." We're looking for a symbol that doesn't have an institutional feel to it, but more of an abstract iconic symbol that says transcend yourself, move beyond where you are into your future. We also are striving to be a "college without borders" by offering a large number of online classes and trying to expand our borders beyond our district boundaries and bring in students from surrounding areas.

We're looking for a relatively simple, clean design with our college name and a symbol. Please stay away from the use of books, people, torches or any other type of symbol that would be typically associated with education. We would like something that is a solid visual representation of our tagline "be the future." The use of the tagline is not necessary within the logo itself.
