Logo for a company which makes high quality hand-made soaps and creams
Oxnard's
Country House Soaps
Yes
My company produces hand-made high quality soaps and creams and I want the logo to convey the idealised sense of (upperclass) Englishness which existed before world war 1 - when the English country house was in its heyday. For the style and colouration of the logo, think of hand-made leather shoes (http://www.loake.co.uk), shirts and suits hand-made in Jermyn Street, London (http://www.jermynstreet.net); the "Dreaming Spires" of Oxford and Cambridge (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.micklem/dreamingspires/dspiresindex.htm); punting on the river Avon; Bentley cars etc. These are romantic, yet powerful associations. However, I don't want a kitsch traditional "English bobby - Houses of Parliament" look. No Union Jacks or red phone booths and none of the 'red, white and blue' colouration associated with those things. The logo is to be gentle, and restrained, not jingoistic. Largely gender neutral, since the products are for men as well as women - so no Laura Ashley look. I am English, and living in Mexico so will be selling mainly to American and Canadian tourists. I want a logo which evokes the 'James Ivory/Merchant' sense of Englishess which is very appealing to many. My logo will be used on soap wrapping - but also on round labels used on jars of cream - so I don't want the logo to be too wide. If possible, provide the logo both with, and without the strapline, so it can be used for both purposes. It must be clearly defined even at a small size. It will also be used in the header of my website, so I would like a transparent background, rather than white. I need it to be problem-free with the printers please, so 300dpi minimum and pantone colours (but will be advised by you). Please, no cliched spa images of healing hands, palm trees, facial profiles or sunsets.

Unsure. Perhaps colours derived from the concepts I have given in the brief. Retro but not stuffy.
