Describe who/what this design is about

This logo is for a chess club wo will be celebarting it's 50 year anniversary. We do not have a logo yet. The club mentality is more about sociable, friendly than about achievement driven. If possible we would like an additional version for our celebration year with '50' in it.

We want to have the tekst "De IJssel" in the Logo, which is the name of our chess club. And we want to have an icon/figure designed that everybody will associate with Chess.
