8 Secrets to Logo Design Like a Pro

First impressions matter.

To a business, their logo is the first impression potential customers encounter about their brand and companies pay big to have a great logo to entice customers to buy their product or services. There are a multitude of studies out there that have shown it’s difficult to change how you feel about something after the first initial impression.

Designers, this is what brand identity is all about; you’re making an impression, building a company image, and creating a clear message about the brand.

Think like a customer

Let’s do a small exercise. Imagine yourself in the shoes of the client’s customers. Think about the last time you went shopping. I’m sure you have passed on shopping in a specific store when you saw their terrible logo all over the product. Or you had a situation that a store logo was so bland that it didn’t even register an impression on you, so you couldn’t find it in the shopping center. This is exactly what a company doesn’t want!

You need to ask yourself how do you create something original that stands out and how do you create something quickly while retaining the quality of the brand? You want your logo design to fit the company’s brand.

Designers work long hours to conquer this aspect of graphic design, and you struggle throughout your career building brand identities and logo design. Some designers volunteer to design for non-profits groups or compete in logo design contests to keep their skills sharp, while others stretch their skills and showcase designs in online forums and ask for critiques from professionals. Don’t waste energy on things that won’t push you or build on your skills. Everything you do needs to help you improve.

Logo designing is hard, but you can do it!

If you still are having problems with logo design, maybe it’s time to step back and review what is involved to create a great, professional logo. Check out this slideshare for tips about the logo design process!

Designing a logo is a long road filled with lots of design drafts. I’m sure that more than once you’ve gotten a headache from working long hours over a design. I hope this helps you!

    • Thanks for visiting Jeron! True, there are so many elements that go into logo designing, and so many messages that needs to go into the logo. The above pointers are just touching the surface I feel.

  • I totally agree when you said that the logo must be appropriate for your company's brand. It would really make your potential clients have an idea regarding your products or services just by looking at your logo. My sister should know about this to make her future business successful by attracting customers fast. It will be launched next year, so this tip will be useful when she hires a creator next month.
