Better Than Airbnb Logo Contest – Vote for the Winner!

ZillionDesigns launched a contest which encouraged our 50,000+ designers to create a more appropriate Airbnb design than the one they recently released. (Take that as you will!)

We joke about it now, but Airbnb unveiled their brand overhaul and it didn’t go over well. Airbnb’s new logo intended to represent a universal symbol of belonging, but overnight the redesign became an overblown controversy in the design industry. From sexual genitalia comparisons to morphing into a meme on Tumblr, the new Airbnb logo worked its way around the Internet media as the latest logo brand buzz.

However, professionals in the design community felt the new company logo needed another rehaul. ZillionDesigns answered the call and jokingly started a logo design contest to design a better Airbnb logo. We wanted our designers take a crack at the Airbnb brand and see if what they came up with is better than the current logo!

This contest was for fun, but we had a shocking response from our community with over 800 submissions! Thank you to all who entered.

Our staff team had to narrow it down to the top five, and now we need the public’s help.

Out of the five options listed below, vote for the logo design that you feel the best choice for Airbnb. You can only vote once, so be sure to pick the logo design that best fits the Airbnb brand. Voting ends soon, so cast your vote ASAP!

The original contest can be found here, which concluded with over 862 entries!

  • I must say that I don't like new Airbnb logo but I don't hate it. This 5 logos you voting for are far away from good design.... Airbnb logo is still much better then this 5.

    • I admire the amount of work and effort it took to design the new Airbnb logo, but it isn't without its own issues in design. Airbnb logo has a lot of problems - most notably the meme created from it and the fact it is very similar to Automation Anywhere.

      • I don't think the memes are problem to Airbnb as the Founder itself said “Go Ahead, Laugh All You Want”. Airbnb knows how to ignore.

  • The new Airbnb logo by logoon and javabatik are very fit to the Airbnb profile.
And the most fit and complete symbol is in javabatik design.
We could found the location baloon, the love, the mountain, the plane, the shore in one logo

  • I don't particularly like any of them.
    Logoons is the least bad.
Don't use sevensky's heart vagina thing.

  • my logo concept was just a shape of heart ( love),idea of people ( peace in community)
use of place icon, and lastly a concept of arrow which define that you can go every where.

i try to follow the brief and design amazing concept which defines a lots of thoughts in one symbol
So please think positive and vote my design
    that's all
    thanks!

    Sevensky!!

  • The designs submitted are typical of crowdsourcing mentality. There's no brand, no relationship with the company, no communication, no consideration. The designs run from obvious and generic to meaningless and poorly designed, and all the designs are completely bereft of depth and flexibility. Airbnb wanted a brand. There's a story behind the logo that translates into every facet of their identity, including their mission statement and ethos, which was their primary focus. I'm not crazy about the design, but in context, it makes sense, tells the story, and is simple. That equals extremely easy to recognize and incorporate, and that it is.

    • I would have to disagree there. Just because someone explained the concepts behind the Airbnb brand doesn't mean it's obvious. If someone presented the current brand design out of context, I am sure your feedback would have been the same.
Knowing these designs came from a crowdsourcing website, doesn't justify for a bias view of their interpretation. I would suggest giving it a thought like Guy Palm did and if it still doesn't strike a chord then you are entitled to your opinion.

  • Javabatik's logo has a lot of thought, but… doesn't it have some things that you didn't necessarily want… like a plane and a heart? Or is that just an arrow? It kinda looks more like a plane than an arrow to me. You said no *paper* airplanes, but a regular plane is okay? And the whole thing immediately looked like a strawberry to me. Not sure if that was intended, and if that communicates the requested message or not. Did not really see mountains and shore. I did notice the rotated "B" which also accomplishes the indentation of the heart. And I suppose the arrow/plane could be an "A". And the "strawberry" shape is also like a map pin, which is probably what was intended. Overall, not my favorite one; a little too ambiguous. It's cool when a logo incorporates multiple meanings and the image suggests other things that relate to the requested message, but that one is a little too much, and thus unclear in its overall message.

I agree, logoon's is the least bad. The cloud says "air" the map pin says "places" which at least suggests "travelers". It doesn't really get across the "people" or "love" or "community" or "accommodations" ideas, but at least it is clear and simple and will look good at small sizes. Maybe if the bumps in the cloud off to the left were made to look more like rotated "B"s it might tie into the "BNB" idea a little better. But maybe it's better that it's just a cloud.

The rest are really bad. If these are the five best, I am curious to see the rest!! Why are they "Eliminated" so we can't see them?

And why would including a house or roof in the design be bad - isn't this about people opening their house to people? Isn't that what a B and B is - a house, rather than a building? I wonder what you would have gotten if you had prohibited the use of the map pin as having anything to do with the requested themes!! It is a kind of tenuous connection at best.
