Milton Glaser, for many people, is the stellar quintessence of a modern renaissance man. He has made vast and important contributions in the field of graphic design. His creative and articulate work, with a deep understanding of ideas that he represents, has influenced design ideas at a global level. His approach to designing graphics is to acquire a broader perspective of designs. His way is to not focus on one subject, but function in several areas.
“We are all born with genius. It’s like our fairy godmother. But what happens in life is that we stop listening to our inner voices, and we no longer have access to this extraordinary ability to create poetry.”
He begins his work by studying his audience, then identifying what they want to do, and finally, he uses that knowledge in his designs to inspire them. His design philosophy revolves around taking full responsibility of his projects. He believes that the ideologies the world follows for good citizenship pertain to responsible designers – uphold the values of your audience, make sure your design does not lie to them. Milton Glaser is still producing wonderful graphics, and wishes to learn more, to discover his full potential.
“I go to work every morning with the possibility that I might learn something I don’t already know…. If you look at a problem as an opportunity to show what you already know, it’s useless. You should look at every problem and think, ‘what can I learn by doing this?’ And if you think you can learn nothing, forget about doing it.”
