I would like to create a logo to brand a brewpub/brewery I hope to open within the next few years but want to build up hype for now. My great grandfather opened a tavern “Call’s” in Buffalo, NY in 1946 which my grandfather, father and uncle ran until it was torn down in 1988. The bar/restaurant dream has been reignited within my family but we plan to reinvent the bar as brewpub this time around. We want to focus on branding ourselves as brewers and genuine beer lovers more than just a pub and therefore have decided for now to brand ourselves around “Call’s Craft Brewery.” This will be used for branding of everything from T-Shirts to bottle caps to glasses to signage. We want a logo which can fit all of these different mediums in some form. By that I mean a logo which can be deconstructed into sub-elements for multiple use (i.e., similar for bottle caps but more elements when used on a shirt). Overall simplicity, but recognizable is key.

Goal is to have a logo which can be used on signs and labels but hopefully can be broken down or made simple enough to use on bottle caps as well. Natural soft colors and lines that lend themselves to a relaxed environment is key. I want to avoid a logo that is too “corporate.” This will be a family business and I want the logo to speak to that. I would also like the logo to tie back to the old bar without just using a picture of the bar. Using something like a buffalo in the logo to tie back to the original bars location in Buffalo, NY would work. The new bar will not be in Buffalo as we have not decided on a location so we don’t want to tie the logo to a location. Having a design that is distinct and recognizable without the label (Call’s Craft Brewery) is desired as well. There is a link below to a Facebook page which has pictures of the old bar. There are some bottles with labels that we played around with but please don’t let these skew or guide your creativity. Logo’s like Dogfish Head Brewery or Deschutes Brewery fit the style that we are looking for. Sierra Nevada is too complex for what we desire.
