Creative Brief

Logo for photography business

Ben Newnam Photography (and/or) BNP

No

Even though my photography is predominately weddings. I don't want the logo to reflect weddings, in case I decide to incorporate other photography.

I want the logo to evoke strength, dependability and a little bit edgy to show that I am a human and not an organisation.

I am after something high-end & exclusive looking.

I would like the logo to have a 3D pop to it, one that has depth and shading with texture, but also looks balanced and appealing in a 2D situation such as if it were to be shown on a high contrast medium such as a watermark.

Colour is predominantly neutral with a splash of colour.

I encourage you to check out my website http://www.bnphotography.com.au/wedding-photo-gallery and get your ideas & inspiration from the images I take. What impressions do you get from my images? and try to reflect my style of images into the logo. Not from the website itself as I will be changing that and definitely don't get ideas from my current logo as I hate that with a passion.

I don't want any love hearts, wedding rings or anything cliche and cheesy...and no trees. Every second photographer has a tree in their logo. What's that all about?

I'm not after just a signature with the company name.

I want to thank each an every designer that participated in helping design my logo. I have finally picked a winner and the prize has gone to Agungdesgraf. Thank you Agung for being so patient with me. From your simple and elegant initial design which came from left of field. I could see it had potential to really build into something unique and and memorable. Nothing like I have ever seen in a logo. After 84 drafts we finally got there. Cheers, Ben

It's most important to me to see the designs in their most raw form, their most stripped down. in other words the design against a plain white and plain black background. It's nice to see a mocked up version but ultimately I will be deciding the winning design based on good design elements in its most raw form.

I have taken the designs down from my Facebook page so now the competition will be totally veiled now. A couple of days out when I stop taking entries I will put my favorites on one big page all together in their most raw form and post that page on Facebook. This is purely so my clients can help me decide a winner

Sorry I meant CherryPopDesign not CherryArtPop. Please accept my apoplogy. I have so many things running through my mind and trying to decide a winner is tougher than I thought as I'm really trying to work with all the designers as best as I can.

Hi CherryArtPop, I meant to also add that I have stopped posting up the designs on facebook. What I will do is wait until a couple days before the contest is due to end & then put up all my favourite on one big page and put it up on Facebook so my clients can help me decide. After all they are the ones I have to impress so their opinion is very important. I will be putting up the deigns in their most raw form. Not mocked up ones as shown on stationary or plaques etc. Because I feel the true test of a great logo design is in it's most raw form with no distraction. One with a black background and one with a white background as designs need to look good against either light or dark backgrounds. Sure mocked up ones look great and give a good idea of how it will look in real life situations such as on stationary or as a plaque etc. Cheers, Ben

Hi CherryPopDesign, I take what you say into consideration and agree up to a point. But there is always another way of looking about things. Sure there have been designs submitted that have plagiarized from designs already submitted, I have just dismissed many of these designs. But if a designer can build upon an idea of designs I like and put their own flavour into it, then I will take that into consideration. At least this way the designers are heading into the right direction toward the ultimate goal. If the built upon idea is better than the original at least we are further down the track. This is also a test to see the really great designers rise to the top. Ones that are bold enough to submit a truly unique design even after seeing what many have done. Ones that read the brief in detail and check out my images online then design a great logo that best represents my style of images and brief. Sure there are many that you can tell haven't read the brief and some other have but just don't appeal to me. But I don't see harm in building upon an idea as long as it isn't a total ripoff of another design. I am cluey enough to work this out. The thing is I don't want to be bombarded with design after design that isn't even close, then having to respond to each one of the designs. Wouldn't it be beneficial for everybody if they knew which path to take in the first place? The cream always rises to the top. whether they build upon an idea or create one of their own unique design. There are a handful of designers that have created something truly unique and really tried to collaborate with me to come up with a design which best represents my companies overall image. These designers are the ones at the top of my shortlist. Thank you for your feedback & I hope I have helped cleared up a few things as to why I do what I do. In all honesty we all copy each other in every aspect of life. From music to tennis. If we didn't we wouldn't learn and get better. I even copy other photographers and put my own twist into it. Cheers, Ben

I'm thinking a PHOTOGRAPHY RELATED COAT OF ARMS with the initials BNP in them and Ben Newnam Photography wrapping around the coat of arms. I would like the whole design to have detail & depth and really pop. Metallic looking with a splash of colour. Maybe a bright light coming from behind the design and spilling over onto the front of the design I have increased the prize money to $300 as I realise this would take a little more effort and imagination.

I'm think something like a photography related coat of arms that has a metallic feel with royal feeling colours such as gold or silver with hints of other bold primary colours in there

Thank you all so far for submitting your designs. So far I'm liking the designs that have an abstract design around the text, seamlessly blending in. Or a design with more than just the text. I'm not a fan of the text only type designs, as you see this all too often. I'm after something quite different. Don't be afraid to express yourself and let your true personality come through in your design I would like the design to portray strength, boldness, exclusivity, high-end and dependability with a little bit of edginess. I don't like the cliche wedding rings, love hearts etc. I don't mind a camera symbol as long as it it very abstract and doesn't scream "camera". It really needs to blend in with the whole design. Finally I am after design with more depth to it. As though the design is jumping from the page Possibly a foreground text and back ground object.
