SciTechDaily.com is a science and technology news site. It is being redesigned from the ground up, and in addition to science and technology news, the new site will also cover gadgets (i.e. the latest iPhone news), video games, and movies (primarily Sci-Fi and superhero type movies).
It is under new ownership, so the current SciTechDaily.com site should NOT serve as any guide for what we are looking for. However, you can look at this basic mockup to get an idea what the new site is going to look like:

The logo is going to be used almost entirely on the web, so it can be full color and include shading, gradients, or 3D effects. The colors you select should be selected to work well with the mockup of the new site design: http://scitechdaily.com/mockup.png In particular the logo should be able to fit in where it says "LOGO HERE" matching the site, yet complementing the header background so it stands out.
