WHAT DOES ZA CENTRAL REGISTRY, ZACR, DO?
* The ZA Central registry is responsible for overseeing the sale of .za domain names.
* They manage the process of acquiring and registering a domain name.
* They mediate disputes.
* They maintain the effective running of the .co.za DNS and all the systems that allow the Internet to operate for South African hosted domains and networks.
* They house the servers that allow you to connect to other computers and networks on the Internet within South Africa.

WHAT IS ZACR’S HISTORY?
* ZACR is an independent body which has been recognised by the .ZA Domain Name Authority ZADNA to administer and manage the .co.za 2nd
level domain name. See http://www.uniforum.org.za/ect/ect-act-advisory.shtml
* Uniforum deals with the registration of domain names 2ndlevel domain names under the .za ccTLD Country Code Top Level Domain .
* Following a meeting on 13 July 2011, the boards of UniForum and ZADNA, in principle, supported a proposal settling the scope and ambit of an MOU so that UniForum could assume the role of the Central Registry.
* This means Uniforum will assume the administration of .co.za, web.za, org.za and net.za.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS? WHY?
* To become a world class registry with a proven track record, through our extensive knowledge of the DNS, reliable infrastructure and operational capabilities.
* To grow the Internet Domain Name Space in South Africa and beyond.
* To foster and create long term relationship with our registrars and resellers.

WHAT IS THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE DESIGN PROJECT?
* The goal of the project is to assign a new identity for the ZA Central Registry.
* The design project should help introduce people to the notion of the Internet as a new business marketplace. Buying an Internet address is like investing in a house, but financially less risky.

WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO COMMUNICATE AND WHY?
* The capabilities of the registry UniForum SA, in comparison with other 2nd level domain name administrators, is currently the largest 2nd level domain name administrator within the .ZA TLD name space with its registration figures sitting at 800 000 as at 20I04I2012. This figure is constantly increasing and we envisage reaching the 1million mark in late 2012
* The potential it has to grow on the continent.
* The proven track record.

ARE YOU TRYING TO SELL MORE PRODUCTS OR GET AWARENESS OF YOUR PRODUCT/SERVICE?
* The new design should introduce people to the brand ZACR.
* The new imagery should be interesting enough to create curiosity.

HOW DO WE DIFFER FROM OUR COMPETITORS?
* The company is run as a non-profit organisation
* The company has an extensive corporate social investment project that endeavours to teach computer technology in resource starved locations.
* The company celebrates its African status

DO WE WANT TO REINVENT OURSELVES OR DO WE WANT TO UPDATE OUR PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL?
* The corporate image must represent a powerhouse in the internet game.
* The new imagery should represent the infancy of the new ZACR organisation, and at the same time communicate the strength and track record of Uniforum ZA.Who is the target market?
* Domain Name Registrars
* Domain Name Resellers
* Regulatory Bodies
* ZA Domain Name Authority
* Trademark Authorities
* Department of Communication South Africa

WHAT ARE THE KEY MESSAGES?
* A New Dawn
* Limitless Potential and Oportunities
* Reliability and Austerity
* Native
* Professional
* Progression and Advancement

WHERE IS IT GOING TO BE USED?
* We are looking for corporate imagery that will be used internally for company letterheads, email signatures, business cards and stationery.
* The logo will be used on all external communications banners, brochures, websites and advertisements.

ANY OTHER VITAL DESIGN INFORMATION?
* The organisation is linked to government not directly so the design should be cognisant of that.
* The design will represent the country on a global scale being the registry that manages and administrates .za domain names.
* See below for the current UniForum logo:

    #114 The logo has a resemblance to the ICANN logo especially with the positioning of the globale device above the text. Please provide variants in terms of the positioning of the globe. - The nodes (dots) on the globe device are very good, and seem to symbolise a very abstract outline of the African continent? Please see if you can develop this a little bit further to make it slightly more obvious... perhaps with a slightly bolder dot at the bottom representing South Africa?

    #74 Interesting concept. With regards the globe device, please use 1 (one) colour and black. Perhaps a dark red or maroon colour. - Introduce differentiation on the text by having "ZA" in one colour and "CR" in another (again using black for the one and the selected colour for the other). - You can also use font size as a differentiator (ZA and CR) - Try integrate the globe device with the text more... perhaps the edge of it as a background to the text?

    #84 & #85 The device symbolizing a network looks too much like a depiction of an atom. The symbolism must be more towards a global network (The Domain Name System)... and how .za fits into that.

    #114 This looks interesting and does provide some symbolism towards the global DNS (of which ZA is part). Additional attempts can have the globe device more integrated as a background to the text instead of sitting above the text only. The red is nice, but also try green. - The differentiation between ZA and CR with colour is also effective. Try further differentiation using font sizes?

    #85 Correction... Remove larger map section to the right and only keep the map version to the left of the logo (in colour) the rest in grey scale. The addition of the 2 maps makes it look too busy.
