The African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) is one of the oldest church organizations in the United States. The 2nd Episcopal District is one of it's largest concentrations of churches and members - encompassing the entire mid-atlantic region. The logo should simply, but powerfully display the scope and importance of the 2nd Episcopal districts Reach/Influence.
The overall church's logo has always been a shield with an Anvil and a Cross and it would be good to try to incorporate these elements into the design but it's not imperative. We would really like a clean, professional yet simple logo that stands out and has '2nd Episcopal District' displayed prominently.

Historically the church has used a 'shield' for the design. it is not imperative that this be the case, but it can certainly be the starting point. Perhaps somehow incorporating the Anvil and the cross against a silhouette of the mid atlantic region ( the states mentioned above - MD, DC, VA, NC)? We are open too ideas. It could really be something modern and symbolic but remember to prominently display the term '2nd Episcopal District' and try to add in the Anvil and the cross. The church logo and the district logos will be provided below.
