UPDATE TO BRIEF: We like the idea of contrasting something earthy (for the abstract element) with bright colours such as yellows, oranges with grey, green blue, etc. anything that contrasts well with the earthy colors. We would like to integrate earthy elements into this. The abstract symbol could be a branch from a tree or a leaf from a plant. A beach or mountain range may be okay. We are also open to other ideas, don't feel limited by these suggestions
