Logo for fine art photographer website & business cards

Doug Sturgess Photography

custom fine art photography for interior design

Yes

I am a Physical Therapist by day but a photographer at heart. My photography is a side business that I hope grows over the years to establish me as a respectable fine art photographer/artist.

I have a good eye for capturing beauty that others pass over. I pride myself in having a great eye for both subject & composition as well as using archival quality cutting edge media to print my images on including giclèe fine art papers, aluminum & acrylic.

I am not a portrait photographer but prefer to shoot just about anything else that catches my eye ranging from underwater photography to landscapes & citiscapes. Please see my website www.dougsturgess.com to get a feel of my work & a feel for what I'm trying to project.

I want the logo colors/design to compliment my website (www.dougsturgess.com) and to translate very well with copy, email, fax & print (i.e. the logo should look great in color but be recognizable in black & white).

not sure

I'm looking for a sophisticated, clean logo that infers quality, professional artwork.

It would be really nice if the symbol/illustration for the logo is simple enough that I could draw it as part of my signature on my artwork. A symbol/illustration that over time becomes recognizable as Doug Sturgess' artwork.

I don't want any symbols of cameras, lenses, etc. If anything, perhaps something that features artwork hanging in a contemporary/modern space (this is just a thought, not a necessity).

I'd also like the logo to fit/look good whether printed on a standard or square business card.

My website is www.dougsturgess.com

Well, yeah, maxmix's logo was an example given of the style that the PH wanted; unfortunately, as much as we tried to make an original icon that's simple, easily draw-able, easily recognizable and looks good, the only thing that will work is a complete rip. Oh well, at least Doug is getting what he needs, which is the whole point anyways. :)

@james12: I don't find anything wrong in maxmix giving his profile icon to a client for two reasons: 1. It's his own and has not been used for commercial purposes 2. He has tweaked it enough to adapt to this project. So I don't think there is an issue here. I'm dead against one designer copying another even conceptually and that's what that needs to be stopped. Who's bothered if a designer's copying from himself? I'm not writing this with an ulterior motive. My logo was eliminated, I don't care to work more for this project and I don't know who maxmix is.

Hi all What happening here I client need other person's Identity instead to have his own and other impossible thing that maxmix is going to give the client his logo's copy Amazing guys. and mb is doing nothing to stop that all designers are blocked to copy other's but in this case support is doing nothing. Best of luck guys.

Clarifications on what I'm looking for. So far, most of the graphic designs have been either too complicated for me to realistically draw, or based on my initials which are not easy to replicate without a computer, or don't evoke what I'm looking for. I'm sorry if I've been too vague in what I want. I'll try to clarify it here. I would be really interested in seeing a unique graphical symbol/icon that screams fine art or fine art photography that is simple & quickly drawn. Size wise, I should be able to draw it below the end of my signature (see http://www.dougsturgess.com/about/ for signature). Perhaps it would be easier to start with looking at the signature? Just a suggestion. I'm not looking for the following icons: flowers, camera, lenses, complicated designs. I want the graphic symbol/icon to look good by itself on my website and when part of a business card. When it's on my website, I want it to compliment the site. For example, each time Liberace signed his signature for someone, he drew his trademark grand piano. It was something recognizeable with him, whether you saw it with his signature or not. That's sort of the idea I'm looking for. I'm not a creative like you designers but I will know it's right when I see it. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Thanks for all your input.

I'm referring to Maxmix's avatar. That's the symbol I like.

For more clarification, I want to include this example of a simple, clean logo that caught my eye from one of the designers on this website: http://orders.logodesignguru.com/users/maxmix Although it doesn't have anything to do with photography, what I like about this is it's a clean, unique & simple symbol and one that I could easily draw next to my signature on a piece of artwork. I don't have the vision/creativity to come up with this symbol on my own. I'm hoping someone out there has some great ideas. I'd would like a symbol that can be used by itself yet also be incorporated into my business cards, website, etc. I would like the symbol to reflect the concept of something to do with fine art photography. Clean, simple. Thank you.

Hi Cathedral, I did consider your submission but it didn't take but a few seconds to know it didn't meet my guidelines outlined in my brief. I'm looking for a sophisticated, clean logo that infers quality & professional artwork. I would like a logo/symbol that reflects the quality of my artwork & one that is simple enough that I could draw it as part of my signature when I sign my artwork. A logo/symbol that over time becomes recognizable as Doug Sturgess' artwork. I don't want any the usual symbols of cameras, lenses, etc. I'd also like the logo to fit/look good whether printed on a standard or square business card. The design you submitted would not fax or copy well & would not stand out on my website with the grey background. I didn't think using my initials DS in the way you did was very creative. What about your design says photography or fine art? I'm looking for creativity.

Could you give us a few more guidelines? At the moment it's very vague, as though you aren't quite sure what you want, but the logo I submitted (which I think is actually a great logo, even if it doesn't fit your preferences) was eliminated right away. It would be great if we had a few more guidelines as to what you're looking for, so we aren't spending a lot of time making logos that you don't even consider. Thanks!
