A Bite Into Apple’s Font History

The new Apple font San-Francisco has been the talk of the town lately! If you didn’t know already, last month Apple released a new bundle of developer tools called WatchKit to help third-party Apple Watch app developers. The bundle included the nice surprise of  23 different variations of the Apple Watch system font- the first font Apple has developed in 20 years!

Fonts have played a large role in the Apple brand from the beginning; from corporate fonts to custom variations, Apple has always held a strong policy on what fonts would become part of the brand’s identity.

Brand identity design is a complex process, but Apple has honed theirs over several years of careful execution. This fun infographic touches on the vast and complicated history of the Apple brand’s fonts.
