Logo/Header for Writer's Personal Blog

The design is for the header/logo for a personal blog for a fiction writer and jewelry designer. I’ve only just started it up, so its current state may not adequately reflect what I’m planning to do with it, but the url is http://glassoffancy.com. (Incidentally, the “glass” in the name is for looking-glass/mirror, not glass of wine.) Ultimately, I plan to use it to publicize a novel currently in draft and other future works, and possibly also link it to a jewelry website still under construction. At some point there will be downloadable short stories. For now, I expect it to focus on personal anecdotes, book reviews, and fashion highlights, with occasional science articles, cooking or baking adventures, or museum exhibit reviews. The blog itself will involve some pictures and a lot of text; I anticipate keeping the main body of the text in a simple black-on-white format as it is now to keep it easily readable. I’m hoping to draw both fiction readers and people interested in fashion. Because it’s intended for use as a blog header rather than a traditional logo, it can be a little more complicated than something that needed to go on business cards.

I really dislike yellow except as an accent but aside from that I’m open to suggestion. I’d like it to be definite (preferably not too pastel except as a background) but not so bright as to be aggressive; I want it to be easily legible but reasonably relaxing so that people want to stay and read. Possibly some use of black and grey for lines or type and another color or two to give it life. Ease of printing is not a concern. Background can be any color (would be nice if the header stands out a bit from the rest of the page) but bear in mind that the blog articles will be on a white background, so preferably not black or anything that would be shocking in comparison. I’d prefer that it not be entirely in black and white.

Ideally, it should involve both some sort of graphic and the name of the blog. The graphic can be related to the content of the blog but doesn’t need to be. Ideally, I’d like the end product to include the basic graphic both with and without any background that’s included so that I can use it on another color/in another context if I need to.
