Earth Day Illustrations

ZillionDesigns launched a contest asking our 50,000+ designers to create an illustration for Earth Day. We wanted designs that had a simple concept, helped promote a more earth-conscious and environmentally friendly world, and centered on our theme “Think Before You Print.” It was also an opportunity to show off the illustration and poster design skills of our community.

We received submissions from all over the world! Thank you to all who entered.

Although there were many wonderful designs, our staff team had to narrow it down to the top five, and now we need your help!

Out of the five options listed below, select the illustration that you believe best fits our theme “Think Before You Print.” You can only vote once, so be sure to pick the illustration that best represents “Think Before You Print”. Voting ends on April 17th, so cast yours soon!

The original contest can be found here, which concluded with over 385 entries.

UPDATE: The poll has officially been closed.  Thank you to everyone who voted!

These are some very interesting and creative designs. My favorite would definatly be the printout with the cutout of the tree next to it. I feel it is the msot creative one (although the others are extrememly creative as well) as well as sends the message more fittingly.

  2. Shaun Hillam says:

#5 is a package! Earth Day is all about taking care of the Earth.
Which is the main subject is in there and most importantly is there is emotion!

  3. pankaj kumar says:

    Nice concept

  4. H says:

    All nice designs

  5. DESIGNTINE says:

Hello Everyone! great stuff here… I was one of the participants but wasn’t able to make it to top 5, had so much fun though!!! My vote goes to #359 (THE EARTH IN TEAERS WRAPPED WITH PAPER)as it is truly a sure win for me right from the moment I saw that Masterpiece hit the entries/gallery page. I know most people who can see this couldn’t agree with me more… It has all the elements you needed from your design brief… From color preferences, the attack on the current environmental issues, the play of fun and corporate graphic design techniques, the design is remarkably fresh and appealing to the eyes of the audience… From a 100% to 20% view of the artwork, it remains visible and recognizable thus can be printed out on different canvases and materials… VOTE for this masterpiece coz I know you will!!!

    1. It’s true, this design does fit everything in the brief very well and it is very visual! It seems people are starting to respond to it too, it’s begun a 3-way battle with 2 other designs!

  6. Melmar Quejada says:

I like the top 5 illustrations but the one i like the most is 5th one..”SIMPLY ARTISTIC”.. It’s hard to find an art that has minimal elements but the message is completely fantastic like the one made by Microsohk. If you put this on any visual ad, it fits. The concept is compact and straight forward. This can communicate to everyone, adult or youth..Microsoft nailed it!!..:)

    1. Melmar Quejada says:

      It’s for MICROSOHK i mean..IT’s a WIN!

  7. Luna K says:

These are all excellent choices! I like the third one for it’s simplicity, but I think my very favorite would have to be the second one (for a college campus setting, at least)

But I think #5 would be perfect for an elementary-age audience!

    Great job, everyone.

    1. Janil Jean says:

Thank you! 🙂 Do share and ask others to vote too! Let’s spread the words.

  8. Martin Ivanov says:

this is a really nice concept

  9. Shawn S says:

My vote goes for the design by evgenyya. I think overall layout of the design plus choice of colors really help it stick out from amongst the other choices.

  10. Mark Brown says:

Illustration by Microsohk is the one completely conveys the theme “Think before you Print”

We all the knew that papers comes from the trees, but this illustration does not only shows that but it also shows the effect of it on our home Earth and the fact that we are hurting. it.

The illustration also approach young audiences. Even without the caption the illustration tells the complete thought or story…

    1. Janil Jean says:

Understandably we all know the consequences but not many relate to their own self. We hope this contest will create some awareness. I am happy you can relate to it.

  11. Mark Brown says:

One more thing… I would love that design to be printed on my shirts and to my kids shirts showing we support Earth Day!

    1. Janil Jean says:

Brilliant idea! Let me find out and let you know.

  12. Jerald Ganzon says:

#5 Entry is the best for me. The Earth Wrapping of papers. The main concept is the care for the benefit of all. The Concept is Original, Emotionally shows the thought/idea. Easy to recognize the idea.

    1. #5 is a great emotion-provoking piece, I agree! The eyes and the tears bring across a great message.

  13. Tatiana Primova says:

All 5 are very nice ,but I like best the one from Evgenyya FR. The idea is greate . Bravo!!
    Tatiana

  14. Reggie says:

I work in the arts and around creative marketing people daily. The earth crying poster is fantastic! When marketing an idea you need to have something quick and easy to remember…and something you won’t forget. The emotion added to this makes the point come across extremely strong. And good for all ages to remember. Brilliant concept!!!

    1. Janil Jean says:

I agree. As creatives if we can relate to it and convince others to become aware of this issue, perhaps more people will make conscious efforts to print only when necessary. Would love to hear what your circle has to say about this.

  15. Eileen Mallas says:

Excellent graphic to portray our loss of life-giving trees!

  16. Lualhati Bautista says:

The one from Sesilia really hit home, considering that the Philippines has just experienced the worst typhoon in history.

    1. Janil Jean says:

I am happy you can relate it; this means the illustration is relevant to everyone around the globe. Do tell others what they think.

  17. Lualhati Bautista says:

    nice concept. beautiful illustrations.

  18. Auggusta de Almeidda says:

I vote for Sessilla of PH. It’s got imagination, visual lyricism, and has a childlike playfulness that connects.

    1. You’re right, it does have a lot of imagination. It really fits the “illustration” aspect of the contest.

  19. Tim Schmidt says:

they are all good, but the design of microsohk looks like an earth wrapped up in toilet paper :D, and it’s little too childish also.

    1. Designs are successful depending on who the message is for, and it could work for children, that’s true! It’s something to consider. We already had one person comment that it would be great for kids shirts 🙂

  20. Mark Brown says:

Illustration by microsohk can we use that design to be printed on a shirt? Is it okay and free? Hehehehe

If this contest will be base on how the ilustration portrays the message, that earth on tears is a winner. But if it is just a number of votes then, obviously not a winner.

Zilliondesigns should not base the winner on the number of votes because that can easily be made up! Contest should be judged on how the illustration portrays the theme as per creativity is concern.

Im going to follow this contest!

    1. We have discussed about the microsohk design and the t-shirt idea. We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated on what will happen at the end of the contest. But I’m fairly sure, it wouldn’t be free 😉

Thanks for following the contest. It seems people agree with you on the design.. check back at the results so far! Also.. Everyone only has 1 vote, it’s built into the poll.

  21. Eileen Mallas says:

Just want to be sure you know I chose evgenyya, FR

  22. JANICE FOWLER says:

I VOTE FOR EVGENYYA, FR. THEY ARE ALL VERY CREATIVE BUT THAT ONE IS MY FAV.

  23. Rachel says:

Sesilia’s is gorgeous! It’s definitely my favorite…I’d hang it in my home as art after earth day!

  24. Reggie says:

I’m actually a bit disappointed in this contest. I used this link to have others try to vote. However, when they click on the link they are unable to vote. One reason – on some browsers it appears the VOTE button is the same color as the background – so they do not know where to vote. Also, most are now saying that the link only provides them with the Voting Results – so once again they are unable to vote. The link I gave is..

    1. Linking to this blog post is correct. This is where voting takes place.

I will pass on the issue with the vote button to the support team and have them investigate. Thanks for letting us know there may be an issue.

If the link only provides them with Voting Results, then they have already voted once. You are only allowed to vote once.

  25. Hi! As a social poster designer for me less is more, I like clean and simple posters, they are more effective, so I choose Oriono poster.

    Regards

    1. Michel Bardin says:

Yes, less is more. But if your entire artwork looks like a common Microsoft clip art, you have to try harder.

  26. Maricel Lupigon says:

I voted for microsohk’s design! Amazing concept and there is emotions on the design. Versatile in any kind of media. Sad to say and obviously its not a winner if the contest will only depend on the number of votes.

These number of votes can easily be made up but the thoughts of the design will speak on its own.

Good Luck to all of the participants!
