Creative Brief

Logo for a small business that offers massage therapy and yoga self-practice education.

Goshen Healing Arts

Take ownership of your well-being using massage therapy & yoga self-practice!

Yes

About the business: At Goshen Healing Arts, clients are supported in integrating therapeutic movement into their daily routines -- in order to create conditions for the body & mind to become stronger, more flexible and more resilient. Massage therapy is used to support this process by providing experiential understanding to clients of how their unique bodies and minds work -- and to promote greater recognition of holding patterns, postural habits, movement tendencies, balance and imbalance, increasing sensitivity and ability to quiet the mental chatter.

Logo Image: I'm looking for an easy visual illustrating the movement potential of the human body. This could be one body, or several. The movement could be a yoga pose, or poses -- or any other image that conveys movement.

Text: I definitely want the name "Goshen Healing Arts" in the logo. I included my tag line in this brief. If you can find a way to incorporate it into my logo, that would be fantastic! If you believe it looks better to not have the extra text, that's also an option and I will gladly consider those submissions. My full tagline is on the long side, I realize. You could also experiment with a shortened version: "Take ownership of your well-being!" Use your artist's eye to show me what you think looks best!

Colors: The colors of my business are primarily light yellow and black, with other shades of yellow added for complexity and interest. I'm especially interested in submissions that use this color scheme, although I'm also open to considering other possibilities. (This is a new business, so I can still do some adjusting with colors.)

My brainstormed image: I don't have a very concrete image in mind. I feel like there are a lot of possibilities out there, and I'm happy to view them! But one you can consider: Clean lines depicting a black silhouette against a yellow background. A possibility could be a sun-like circle or partial circle, with any one or various shades of yellow, behind the black "movement" silhouette. The "Goshen Healing Arts" business name could arch above the circle, with the tag line running in a straight line (or two) beneath the image (in a smaller font). The circle could be reminiscent of a sun, even just abstractly -- and the movement silhouette could slightly extend beyond its borders. This would make an outline that's primarily circular, but has some variation.

Light yellow as primary background, black silhouette depicting human movement, possibly other shades of yellow for complexity if it looks "right."

not sure

Please see the full description above. To summarize: I would like you to go into your creative zone and see what comes through. The basics I have in mind are: human(s) in movement, silhouette figure(s), yellow background, business name above, tag line below in smaller font -- but I'm open to ideas that are quite different from what I described.

Here is a great silhouette depiction of Surya Namasakara A, as mentioned below. Would anyone be able to put (some version of) these 10 poses in a line, in this order, with the text beneath? (Text = Business name, followed by tag line.) A full black & white representation would work well for this particular design! (I hope the link works for you!) https://www.google.com/search?q=surya+namaskara+a&rlz=1CASMAE_enUS566US568&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=657&tbm=isch&imgil=n_79RG-GdxV7KM%253A%253B2akuoe1NEFcLEM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ashtanga-yoga.eu%25252Fsuryanamaskara%25252Fsuryanamaskara%2525252520engl.htm&source=iu&pf=m&fir=n_79RG-GdxV7KM%253A%252C2akuoe1NEFcLEM%252C_&usg=__EKzufJnV_Ly7y0uX2JwkoeCWYOQ%3D&ved=0ahUKEwiLiL-h7OHMAhUFSCYKHaJ-CFkQyjcIMQ&ei=NXE7V8uZI4WQmQGi_aHIBQ#imgrc=IUP7bpKb6Gyh2M%3A

UPDATE TO BRIEF: I have seen some wonderful work within the last 24 hours! The creative process has led me to both expand and refine my overall concept for my logo. It's a bit different from my original brief. If you are willing to consider working on this project, here are my current thoughts: 1) I will be using a very light pale yellow for the background on my website, business cards, brochures and possibly t-shirts. As such, using yellow in the logo seems to not be the best move. (I'm sorry I didn't realize this when I wrote the brief!) What I'd like to see instead is a more colorful logo utilizing colors that would work well against a pale yellow background. (This became more evident as I started to consider the design submissions.) You could put your submission against either a white or very pale yellow background -- we'll consider the yellow "background" vs. part of the logo itself. Alternatively, a completely black logo could work against pale yellow -- if you're working with an image that would be best in a more uniform color. 2) I have a more refined idea for the movement silhouette I described in my brief: I would love to see logo submissions that (broadly) represent one of the first series of movements I teach to my clients: "Surya Namaskara A." If you google this word, you will see a variety of images that depict the 11 poses that comprise Surya Namaskara A. (I doubt we can show all 11 poses, unless they're very small and in a line. But maybe a few of them, in the order in which they are done :-) 3) I really like the submissions that include my full tag line. I've realized that one way to handle its length is to make the first part a larger font ("Take ownership of your well-being --") and the second part a smaller font ("using massage therapy and yoga self-practice!") Thank-you for working with me! Kristine

Thank-you for the 34 beautiful designs! I'm enjoying looking at each one! Here are three points of feedback for those who will continue to work with this: 1. I want to avoid the "stereotypical" images associated with yoga. They're worn out, in general. Primarily, these are: images of people seated in meditation, the lotus flower. 2. I DO want an image of one or more human bodies in motion. These are the logos I'm most likely to consider. 3. I'll tend to favor images that look unique -- that I don't feel I already seen 100s of times for businesses related to movement, yoga or fitness. Overall, there's a lot of beautiful work here and I'm sure I'll find exactly the right one! Thanks so much, and carry on! (Feel free to ask me any questions; it appears there's an e-mail option right here on the site.)
